The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is the behemoth of the Woods Hole scientific community. Home to geologists, geophysicists, biologists, chemists, physical oceanographers, and applied engineers, WHOI is the largest privately funded ocean science institution in the world.

We follow the story of a group of WHOI biologists and engineers from the 1950s who helped lay the foundations for the field of marine biocoustics.
