Scientific Cooperation at the Institutional Level

Scientific co-operation between the United States and Japan is of course not only between individuals on the personal level as exhibited here by the scientists of MBL and WHOI. Other places and programs, including Friday Harbor Lab or the University of Washington (See E.S. Morse Institute), have entered into co-operative agreements on the institutional level including, among many more:
- Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Graduate University and the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) all have official agreements.
- Japanese Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI)
- Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JOGFS), a co-operative study in association with many institutions, world-wide, to study the ocean floor
