Jean Adelman

Jean Adelman was born in Vermont in 1922. She was a hospital dietician and worked throughout the early years of her marriage. She first came to Woods Hole as a summer resident in 1960 with her husband, Dr. William Adelman Jr., a scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory. While raising three children, she served on the Board of Directors of the Children's School of Science, was Co-Founder of the Woods Hole Fourth of July Parade with Lee and Clark Read and served as House Chairman of the MBL Club. She was the first president of the Woods Hole Theater Company and co-produced and acted in many productions. With her husband, she founded the Fireside Comedy Club. She has been active with the Woods Hole Woman's Club, The Woods Hole Art Show and other community events. Upon her husband's retirement from science, she became a permanent resident of Falmouth and, together with her husband, ran an art supply store and gallery, Apogee Art, for several years. An active artist, Jean served for several years as the President of the Falmouth Artist's Guild and has won many awards for her paintings.
