Laura Livingstone

I arrived in Woods Hole in 1957, from Johns Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore Md., with my first husband Dr. A. J. Darin de Lorenzo, and my two boys who were ages five and two. We were assigned by MBL to live in the Yellow house on FR Lillie Road. When we arrived it was hard to find the house because it was a dark and foggy night. My husband was invited to come to Woods Hole to MBL by Dr. Koufler from Harvard, who had a Lab at MBL.

Rhia Zwilling was our next door neighbor. She lived with her family in the White house on FR Lillie. Rhia was extremely helpful and informed me where to buy our groceries and told us where to buy fish at the Cahoon Fish market in Woods Hole. At that time you had to go to Falmouth to buy your groceries. For entertainment we would attend Friday night lectures and go to the Captain Kidd for pizza and beer afterwards with friends. We also had many fun times at the MBL Club, which was always having dances and fun events. I was very active in the Woods Hole School of Science where I was the Supply Chairman.

After our first summer in Woods Hole, my husband got his own Lab at MBL. We spent two summers at the Yellow house, and then moved to 11 Devil's Lane for five years, and then built our own cottage on Nobska Road the same year our daughter was born. We moved here year round in 1973. During those years I was very active in the WH Women's Club, (past president), and the WH Historical Society, the Falmouth Garden Club, (past president), and the Falmouth Historical Society. In 1984 I married Robert Livingstone III, retired senior scientist from Fisheries, WH. Together we were very active in Pond Watchers, the Oyster Pond Environmental Trust, and FACES.

I am currently active in the PEO, a philanthropic and educational organization for women. I am a long time member of the Woods Hole Golf Club, and the Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole.
