Ann Martin

Born: London, England January 1932

Came to USA in June 1940 on the last boat to leave Ireland for America during WWII.

That summer, she, her British mother and her American father came to Woods Hole to live with her father's sister Dorothy Mavor, who summered here. When Dorothy went back to Schenectady, Ann's parents decided to stay in Woods Hole. Her mother liked the atmosphere of the village.

Ann went to school in Falmouth, then to Northfield Mt. Herman Boarding School, then to Vassar, from which she graduated in 1953. Her first job was as a reporter for the Falmouth Enterprise.

She met and married Buzz (Lowell) Martin. They moved briefly to Indiana, but returned to Woods Hole after their first child, David, was born. Their second son, Daniel, was born here. Initially, Buzz worked for Dan Clark tearing down the old Fisheries building, then later at the MBL.

Ann worked for WHOI for thirty years. It was there that she was trained in computer programming, which became her profession.

Her interests: Reading, Hooking rugs, Gardening, and Playing music (guitar, mountain dulcimer and lately she's been teaching herself the ukulele.)

Her connection to Woods Hole: "I've lived here most of my life!"
