RUM RUNNING AROUND WOODS HOLE: During the 1920s, Prohibition was the law of the land. Woods Hole was part of a smuggling triangle that included Martha's Vineyard and New Bedford. Woods Hole was also home to the Coast Guard base in charge of keeping the seas clean of "rummies".
