WOODS HOLE PASSAGE: Before Woods Hole was a village . . . it was a passage. Sometime in the late 1600s or early 1700s, the small stretch of water that connects Buzzards Bay to Vineyard Sound acquired the name Woods Hole. Yet, no one quite knows why.
