BUCKMINSTER FULLER: Geodesic domes are throwbacks to the days of hippy communes and off-the-grid living, but they got their start in Woods Hole. In 1953, at the invitation of local architect Gunnar Peterson, Buckminster Fuller came here and constructed the world's first free-standing commercial dome -- a geodesic restaurant.
"The Dome" is located on the hill northeast of and overlooking Little Harbor, visible on the right as you approach Woods Hole on Woods Hole Road coming from Falmouth.
