Mary Walsh

I was born August 14, 1926 in Dorchester, MA. I graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls in 1943 and went right to work because of WWII. My first job was as a telephone operator at the Liberty Exchange on Harrison Ave. in Boston. I married Frederick Walsh in 1948 and had three children in 2 years and 10 months (known as Irish triplets). I went to evening classes at Boston State College, earned credits, but not enough to complete a degree. For the next 17 years I worked as a crossing guard for the Boston Police Department. I became president of that organization for 2 years.

My husband Fred, a lieutenant on the Boston Fire Dept., was injured several times. He passed away at age 55, 33 years ago. In the late sixties we bought a summer place in Maravista, but soon discovered we would be happier in a quieter section of town. In 1972 we bought our home on Sippewissett Road.

I love Woods Hole. I attend St. Joseph's Church. I belong to the Woods Hole Woman's Club. I love to read and have enjoyed belonging to the Woods Hole Public Library. I have volunteered at Falmouth Hospital for over 35 years. Currently I help out at the Woman's Imaging Center and the Hospital Blood Bank.
