Beth Berne

I am Beth Berne and I am 88 years old. I was born and grew up in New York City. My husband, Bo Berne, was a physiologist. We started coming to Woods Hole in 1961. Bo rented a desk at the MBL library and worked on the book he was writing. We rented until 1965, and then we bought the house on Gardiner Road. It was on a tilt from a hurricane some years earlier, and in 1973, we tore it down and built a new house, which is still here.

We moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1966 from Cleveland, Ohio, and I still live there, but continue to come to Woods Hole in the summer.

I was a librarian and the head of cataloging at the Charlottesville public library for 25 years.

Bo died in October, 2001. I have four children who take turns visiting and staying with me in Woods Hole. Two of them live in Charlottesville, one lives in Atlanta and one lives in Boston.

Bo and I had many friends here, some going back as far as his medical school. Several have died, but I still have many friends here whom I enjoy seeing.
